You want to conduct research that has real social impact. We can give you the academic guidance you need to do this. If you study a PhD or MPhil with us, you’ll work with two supervisors whose experience is most relevant to your field of study, with the option of additional staff members if you need. This way, you’ll benefit from a diverse network of support and expertise from the start.

Our courses
Law MPhil, PhD
You’ll be based in Cambridge, in the legal quarter halfway between the crown count and county court, and benefit from access to the world-renowned Squire Law Library.

History MPhil, PhD
Our supervisors specialise in research areas like Labour Party history, popular culture, and Russian history, as well as many others.

Sociology MPhil, PhD
Benefit from our links to the wider community, including the Citizens Advice Bureau, so you can compile research with a current, real world focus.

Share your Research
If you study your PhD or MPhil with us, you may have the chance to take on teaching responsibilities and organise research events, so you can develop your work through face-to-face debate and critical analysis. And we host regular faculty and departmental seminars, to give you the opportunity to share your ideas in our safe and supportive academic community. You’ll also be part of a department that’s world-leading for our research, according to the Research Excellence Framework 2014.
