The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences brings together 485 academic and teaching staff, 300 research staff and 200 technical and professional staff –  educating nearly 6,000 undergraduate, 1,000 masters students and over 1,000 postgraduate researchers.

The Faculty consists of:

Our eight Schools form an integrated hub on campus, including the Sir William Henry Bragg Building, a new £100 million development housing first-class laboratory and specialised teaching spaces.

We also have a Joint School with Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) in Chengdu, China with 1,100 students – providing four undergraduate courses co-taught by Leeds and SWJTU staff, which offers a unique opportunity for international collaboration.

We pride ourselves on the professionalism of our staff and the quality of our research environment, promoting excellence by offering a range of cutting-edge courses, many in conjunction with industrial sponsors and collaborators, and with a commitment to public engagement.

The quality of our student education is recognised nationally and internationally, with the Times Higher Education placing Leeds in the top 100 in the world for Engineering in its 2022 World Subject Rankings.

Taught courses in all Schools are accredited by top professional and academic bodies, such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Joint Board of Moderators, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Chemical Engineers, the Institute of Physics, the Royal Society of Chemistry, the British Computer Society and the Royal Statistical Society.
