The Faculty of Environment brings together expert knowledge to address the major challenges facing society today, with expertise across a wide range of disciplines and staff who deliver outstanding student education and research within our schools.

Our research is driven by our close ties with national research centres and institutes here on campus, including the Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy, Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling, National Centre for Atmospheric Science, Priestley International Centre for Climate and Sustainability Research Institute.

In 2021 we were awarded a prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize for research in climate and extreme weather, aiding vulnerable communities in the global south with new forecasting and warning systems.

The quality of our student education is recognised nationally and internationally, with the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 placing Leeds in the top 50 in the world for Environmental Sciences.

We pride ourselves on the professionalism of our staff and the quality of our research environment, promoting excellence by offering a range of cutting-edge courses, many in conjunction with industrial sponsors and collaborators, and with a commitment to public engagement.

Funding and Scholarships

We offer a range of scholarships for students starting their Masters studies. All of these scholarships have academic achievement as a key awarding criteria for the scholarship. The majority are offered as full or partial fee waivers with the value of the award varying between subject areas.
