2. Programme flexibility– we offer a range of research programmes in a variety of subject areas. With a large supervisory team in every academic department, you’ll have the freedom to specialise in a variety of research topics. The majority of our programmes can be studied on a part-time basis, giving you the flexibility to choose when and where you study.

3. A range of funding opportunities –at Swansea, we recognise the importance of funding research, which is why in 2018 we provided just under £10 million in postgraduate scholarships. Every year, we offer a large number of fully funded PhD scholarships across all academic departments. Most of our scholarships provide the full cost of UK/EU tuition fees, as well as an annual living cost stipend for the length of your studies. PhD loans of up to £25,700 are also available for eligible English, Welsh and EU students studying with us. The money is paid directly to you, and can be used towards the cost of your tuition fees and/or living expenses. Swansea has recently been named the UK’s ninth most affordable university town ( With affordable housing options and a low cost of living, you’ll find it easy to make your money stretch a little further.

4. Outstanding supervisors and support– as a Swansea student, you’ll become part of our welcoming community of over 3,500 postgraduate students. All of our research students are encouraged to attend a series of specialist skills development courses. Courses such as Presentation and Public Engagement and Career Planning and Progress are designed to support you throughout your studies, as well as prepare you for your future career.

5. Spectacular scenery– we occupy a prime position right on the coastline of Swansea Bay, with both of our campuses within walking distance of golden, sandy beaches.
