As an exclusively postgraduate university, we teach more than 300 postgraduate students in areas ranging from manufacturing technology to systems and management. Cranfield is in the top four best UK universities for mechanical, aeronautical and manufacturing engineering education. Research students work in fields as diverse as ultra-precision engineering to the novel application of Virtual Reality technologies to support maintenance and through-life engineering services. We work in Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 1-6.

We have exceptional facilities many of which are unique in the university sector. These include ‘clean rooms’, high temperature coating facilities, precision engineering and a hyperbaric welding chamber. We enable engineers to view and solve technical problems in a different location using virtual reality technology.

Career advancement

Our alumni go on to enjoy successful careers. 96% of our graduates are in employment six months after graduation. Increasingly manufacturing graduates apply their skills to other sectors from financial services through to health care.

They fill a range of roles, such as Development Engineering Managers, Strategic Planners, Systems Developers and Technical Analysts. Major companies employing Cranfield graduates in recent years include Ford, British Airways, PwC, Rolls-Royce, Coca-Cola and Oxford Instruments.
