Emily Axon – MA Filmmaking graduate

Information

Emily Axon is a freelance filmmaker. She moved from Manchester to study MA Filmmaking at Sheffield Hallam University. She loved Sheffield so much she decided to stay here after graduating.

‘The support I received from my lecturer Colin Pons pushed me to create better films. He works in the industry, so he was able to provide real-world examples and help me build connections outside the course. Colin has been a huge help and inspiration – I owe my career to him.

‘Since graduating I have worked on the TV series This is England and The Virtues, and on the 2018 film Journeyman. I’m currently working on a film called Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, based on a stage show which started out in Sheffield.

‘If I reflect on how far I’ve come, I pinch myself. I’ve worked very hard to get where I am, but without my time at Hallam I wouldn’t be here.’
