On this masters course, you’ll gain hands-on experience in designing, developing and testing computer games, while building vital technical and professional skills for a successful career.
You’ll create games both individually and in teams, learning in a supportive environment that encourages creativity and experimentation. Core modules provide practical insights into game development using industry-standard tools such as Unity and Unreal Engine.
You’ll explore how game engines work, configure projects, build mini-games, and develop custom mechanics across various game genres. Rapid prototyping sessions will help you generate and refine new ideas while mastering essential coding techniques to create efficient, scalable and maintainable games.
Your studies will culminate in an independent masters project. Supported by our academic and technical teams, you’ll choose a topic of interest and produce a substantial piece of software, which you’ll design, implement, evaluate and document through a dissertation.
You can study the course full-time over one year or with an optional industry placement year, extending its duration to two years. A placement gives you the chance to apply your knowledge in a real-world setting, specialise in your area of interest, and build your professional network.
While it’s your responsibility to search and apply for a placement, you’ll receive support from our academic staff and the University’s Careers and Employability Service to help you find a placement aligned with your goals.
This conversion course is open to anyone with a UK honours degree – at least a 2:2 or the international equivalent – in a STEM or Games-related subject.

Overseas applicants will require IELTS with an overall score of 6.5 with no less than 5.5 in any category, or an equivalent accepted English qualification.
