Study Details: 1 year, full-time

This largely placement-based course focuses on building your practical teaching skills, understanding of educational theory and subject knowledge. You explore professional issues; curriculum content; creative teaching methods; and the role of technology in English teaching. To deliver the secondary curriculum, you should be familiar with classic works of pre-20th century prose and a wide range of modern fiction, non-fiction and poetry. You are expected to stay on top of new and emerging genres while demonstrating a willingness to critique ‘received wisdom’ and outdated pedagogies.
There is the option to take this course part time over two years, making it easier to balance study with your other commitments.

On graduating, you can apply for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), enabling you to work as an English teacher in a secondary education setting. Many of our graduates go on to rewarding employment in local schools.
As well as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), completing the course also offers you up to 60 Master's-level credits with opportunities for further study at MA/MSc, MPhil, PhD and EdD levels.
