As more businesses invest in digital transformation, public sector and central government services are accessed digitally ‘by default’, e-retail outgrows physical high street sales, and a multiplicity of digital services and experiences – for entertainment, sociality and wellbeing – are used by the majority of the population on a daily basis, the need for digital User Experience (UX) specialists will only continue to grow.
The MA User Experience Design introduces you to the necessary core principles of UX Design through lectures, seminars and hands-on studio projects, therefore no prior knowledge of UX Design is required. You will participate in a co-creation module that challenges you to harness your creative, collaborative and critical skills in articulating issues around sustainability. Further UX modules acquaint you with critical understanding of the professional and societal contexts in which UX Designs are developed and deployed and core UX methods and practices required for understanding and designing for different potential ‘users’. These modules will enable you to identify a research problem and/or designed product on which to focus your major independent project in Designing the Transformed User Experience and apply your prior learning to a UX Design research or portfolio project developed under supervision.
You should have at least a 2:2 undergraduate UK honours degree, ideally in a creative arts and design discipline such as e.g., Graphic Design; Fashion Communication Design; Illustration; Animation; Games Art and/or Design; Product Design; Filmmaking; Film & Television Production; Creative Film Production; Media Production; Digital Media Production; Sound & Video; Photography.
Equivalent EU/international qualifications are also accepted.
Applicants who do not meet these criteria will be considered on a case-by case basis as other professional qualifications and/or undergraduate UK honours degree subjects will be considered on merit as will relevant professional experience.
Overseas applicants will require IELTS with an overall score of 6.5 with no less than 5.5 in any category, or an equivalent accepted English language qualification.
