Manchester School of Art

Based in the heart of Manchester, a vibrant and multicultural city, we are an innovator of art and design education in the UK and celebrated our 175th anniversary in 2013.  As the second oldest design school in Britain  we offer postgraduate courses that are still very much influenced by the specialist needs of industry to provide our students with the essential skills and knowledge for their chosen career.

Manchester School of Art offers an extensive range of spaces, workshops and equipment, creating a vibrant and creative learning environment. In addition to our state of the art facilities, we also embrace the traditional, allowing our students to realise even their most ambitious artistic visions.

Our postgraduate community is led by a specialist team of academic staff who are also practising artists, designers and researchers, who work closely with the city and the wider professional world. Many of our graduates go on to contribute to and shape the creative culture of Manchester and beyond with many becoming internationally renowned in their fields. Graduates include Sarah Burton OBE, L.S. Lowry, Julie Walters, Steve Coogan, Liam Spencer, Thomas Heatherwick, Peter Saville, Martin Parr, Brian Cosgrove, Mark Hall, Professor Malcolm Garrett and many more.

We have an extensive portfolio of MA and MFA degrees and provide a broad range of architecture, art, design, media and theatre postgraduate courses in a unique creative environment that encourages creative collaboration across the disciplines including MA Contemporary Curating and MA/MSc Design for Health and Wellbeing
