Ways to study 

Whether you want to study intensively in London, learn online, or fit your studies around work and other commitments, LSHTM offers flexible postgraduate study options designed for today’s global health challenges. Our specialist programmes in public and global health are recognised by employers worldwide and available in a range of formats:

  • Intensive in-person: A campus-based programme completed over one year full-time or two years part-time/split-study (for MSc), featuring face-to-face teaching, practical sessions, and on-site learning.
  • Intensive online: A programme delivered entirely online over one year full-time or two years part-time (for MSc), offering a structured and interactive format with live sessions and virtual collaboration.
  • Distance learning: A flexible, part-time online programme, over two to five years. This is a directed self-study programme, that enables students to study remotely and at their own pace alongside professional or personal commitments.
  • Short courses and modules: designed to fit your interests and professional goals, our range of short courses and modules delivered in-person, online or hybrid emphasises practical knowledge and real-world applications, providing you with skills that can be applied in your field.
  • Research degrees: Our research degree programmes lead to a degree of MPhil, PhD or DrPH (Doctorate of Public Health). LSHTM’s doctoral students work in a variety of disciplines including: molecular biology, immunology,  epidemiology, statistics, mathematical modelling, social science, health services research and health policy and economics. Your thesis could be desk-based or involve field or laboratory work.
