The UCL Social Research Institute is dedicated to advancing policy-oriented social science that creates meaningful change. Our mission is simple yet ambitious: to transform the world through cutting-edge research, innovative teaching, and meaningful public engagement.

We offer a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes tailored to explore pressing social and policy issues and equip students with robust social research methods. We are part of IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society, ranked number one for education worldwide every year since 2014 in the QS World University Rankings.

Social Policy

Programmes in this area offer the opportunity to study social policy and the place of research and evidence within policy-making and practice, as well as a range of methods used in social science.

Research Methods

Our Social Research Methods with Data Science MSc involves studying a wide range of cutting-edge quantitative methods used in social science, with the opportunity to also learn qualitative and evidence synthesis approaches.

Scholarships: Supporting Your Academic Journey

We are proud to offer scholarships that support talented students from all over the world:

  • IOE-Clarke Scholarships: available for practising school teachers from South Africa who wish to undertake a masters’ programme at IOE
  • IOE-ISH Centenary Masters Scholarships: the scholarships cover full tuition fees and accommodation for one academic year at International Students House.
