Make your Masters matter at UCL Mathematics - scholarships available

The Department of Mathematics at UCL has been a leading name in mathematical teaching and research from 1826 to today, where we continue explore and push the boundaries of mathematical knowledge, for the benefit of industry and society.

With our international reputation for research  and teaching (6th in the UK, QS World Rankings by Subject 2026: Mathematics) and central London location – UCL offers the ideal environment in which to pursue an MSc course.

Study mathematics at one of the world’s top-ranked universities, working with world-leading researchers who are shaping policy and practice across industry and governments. You’ll get to build your own research capability to take with you into whatever area of industry you choose, or academia.

Our programmes:

UCL has particular expertise in geometry, spectral theory, number theory, fluid dynamics, numerical analysis and mathematical modelling.

• MSc Financial Mathematics In recent years, the financial services industry has placed increasing emphasis on raising the level of mathematics used in banks, hedge funds and insurance firms, particularly in relation to pricing, hedging and risk management. This innovative MSc covers the diverse skill set needed in maths, statistics and computation, to put you in a strong position for a career in this fast-developing field.
• MSc Mathematical Modelling With mathematical modelling now a sought-after discipline across many areas of business and research, this programme introduces a range of problems – industrial, biological and environmental – and explores the associated conceptual models and solutions. You’ll learn to unpick the processes undertaken to arrive at a mathematical model, and become adept at using the fundamental analytical techniques and computational methods to develop insight into system behaviour.
• MSc Mathematics This new programme offers streams of specialised modules in modern pure and applied mathematics that prepares students to embark on a highly skilled profession or continue their studies at PhD level. The programme introduces students to cutting edge ideas in the areas of Number Theory, Algebra, Geometry and Topology, Pure and Applied Analysis, Combinatorics, Fluid Mechanics, Mathematical Physics, Mathematical Modelling in Industry and Society, Mathematical Biology, Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing and Applied Probability.
