At the Department of Science and Technology Studies (UCL STS), we’re working at the intersection of history, philosophy and the sociology of science, to unpick big societal problems – and explore more integrated ways of addressing them. With our international reputation for research and central London location – UCL offers the ideal environment in which to pursue master’s level study.

Our programmes:

• History and Philosophy of Science MSc
  What can we learn from nearly 3,000 years of scientific ideas and communities? Join us to find out as we explore the inner workings of science’s methods and theories on this specialist History and Philosophy of Science MSc. Working with an integrated mix of experts from across UCL, you’ll explore wide-ranging historical and philosophical themes, while also pushing in exciting new directions, such as philosophy of information and 21st century history.
• Science Communication MSc
  Play your part in changing how people think about science by studying science communication at master’s level. Whether you want to move into journalism, broadcasting, publishing, PR, public engagement or online campaigning – you’ll develop strong communication, journalism and engagement skills, with an academic underpinning from science and technology studies. It’s the ideal springboard for building a career as a science communicator.
• Science, Technology and Society MSc
  Want to explore contemporary science from a range of angles like science policy and governance, science communication and engagement, and the sociology of science? On this MSc, you’ll develop the research skills that are key to all social sciences, alongside a solid understanding of core knowledge and theory. You’ll also build hands-on skills in science journalism, public engagement and policy development.
