We are looking for PhD student candidates to join the EU-funded EXPLORA consortium starting in February 2026.
The project will be supervised by Dr Max Di Luca (School of Psychology and School of Computer Science) and Prof Alan Wing (School of Psychology) and it will be run in the Virtual Reality Lab (https://virtualrealitylab.netlify.app). The project includes: design and implement mixed-reality experiments; record and characterise exploratory hand movements during unconstrained surface exploration; and develop models of how multisensory information and responses are integrated to infer object attributes.
A Master’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a closely related field.
Experience in Experimental methods; VR/XR; programming; computational modelling.
Please note that according to EU rules, the candidate must not have resided or carried out main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the envisioned date of recruitment (earliest date possible: Feb 01, 2026). Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays, and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention are not taken into account.
