Apply now for a Metanoia Institute Scholarship - Increasing Diversity, Access and Participation in the Psychological Professions

  • South East, All EnglandSouth East, All England

Description

Metanoia Institute is proud to introduce the Metanoia Institute Scholarship Fund, a transformative initiative to support aspiring psychotherapists and counsellors from underrepresented communities.

Our scholarship scheme is designed for individuals from underrepresented communities, supporting Metanoia’s vision to increase diversity, access, and participation within the psychological professions. At Metanoia, our scholarship recipients will become the beacons of the psychological professions - future practitioners and leaders whose presence helps others navigate the systemic barriers in higher education and the psychological professions.

For applicants interested in a place in one of Metanoia’s undergraduate or postgraduate taught programmes, up to six scholarships valued at 50% of the course fee are available.

Successful applicants will join a supportive community of change-makers with resources and mentorship throughout their studies at Metanoia.

If you are applying for one of our taught programmes, you can apply for the scholarship alongside your programme application. The scholarship application portal opens each January for students who wish to begin their studies the following academic year. You will be notified of the outcome of your scholarship application by 30 April, allowing you to make an informed decision about registration and enrolment over the summer.

Application process

When you start your application for the scholarship, you will have access to an online screening tool to help you assess your eligibility. If eligible, you will then be invited to submit a personal statement in written, audio, or video form. Guidance on how to prepare your statement can be found using the link below.

You should simultaneously submit your application for your chosen programme at Metanoia Institute.

The deadline for applications is 31 March 2026.

A selection panel will review applications, and successful candidates will be informed by 30 April of the academic year before their studies begin.

Scholarship award

If you are awarded a scholarship, 50% of your tuition fees will be waived for each year of your programme.

This reduction is guaranteed for the full duration of your studies, and no further action will be required from you in subsequent years.

Who is eligible to apply?

To apply for the Metanoia Institute Scholarship, you must:

  • Meet the entry requirements for one of Metanoia’s taught programmes.
  • Not already be enrolled as a Metanoia student (scholarships are not available for current students or research degrees).

You must also meet one of the following criteria:

  • Live in an IMD Decile 1 or 2 area: The Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) considers factors such as income, employment, health, education, housing, crime, and the living environment. You can check which decile you live in by entering your postcode at this website and noting the Decile number (1–10).
  • Score above the threshold on the Everyday Discrimination Scale (EDS), which measures your experience of discrimination. Guidance on the EDS can be found here.
  • Be a care leaver, as defined by The Care Leavers’ Association: any adult who has spent time in care.

Your eligibility for the scholarship is not affected by whether you receive a student loan.
