Swansea University spans two campuses situated in a stunning coastal location, making it a highly desirable place for students to study and conduct research since 1920.
From master’s degrees to PhD study, Swansea offers postgraduate programmes in a wide variety of subject areas which are informed by the latest developments in research and innovation.
Based within the Faculty of Science and Engineering, studying a postgraduate degree at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences will prepare students for an exciting and extremely valuable career in a wide range of industries as it prepares graduates with the knowledge, skills, and innovative thinking to find solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing people and our planet.
Students can expect to explore both traditional and modern-day engineering and scientific principles and elements to understand how things work, how to improve on them, and how to solve problems and develop cutting-edge technology.
As the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences is multidisciplinary, it houses a vast array of cutting-edge facilities to cater to a diverse group of students that will not only foster classroom learning but hand-on learning as well. Many of our laboratories and equipment closely emulate what one would see at industry level which is a huge advantage for students as they can experience using the technology first-hand and gain exposure to what they can expect to see in industry. For example, Chemical Engineering students can have use of the 15 pilot-scale rigs in the Pilot Plant which was famously featured in an episode of BBC’s Dr Who. Other departments such as Sports Science have the Exercise Physiology Lab and Biomechanics Lab. Some other advanced equipment housed within the School include Transmission Electron Microscopes that can image things as small as a finger nail growing in a millisecond, 3D printing labs, sites for polymer and composite production and testing, a Cell/Tissue Engineering Lab, and so much more. The School is also home to the Energy Safety Research Institute (ESRI) which focuses on sustainable energy solutions, the Zienkiewicz Centre for Computational Engineering and advanced computational modelling, and the Centre for Nanohealth which combines nanotechnology with medical science. Students can feel confident that they will never be short of inspiration in their environment.
